Dr. Vincent Felitti and Dr. Robert Anda surveyed 17,000 patients at Kaiser Permanente. They found a straight-line relationship between adversity in childhood and disease, addiction, and early death in adulthood — the more adversity, the worse the outcome, every time.
They named ten Adverse Childhood Experiences: abuse, neglect, and household dysfunction. Thirty years of research rests on that work.
