WHY ONE PERSON MATTERS HERE
Childhood trauma is the leading root cause of death in America, and most people have never heard that sentence. It stays invisible because it is recorded under other names — overdose, suicide, heart disease. Nobody is hiding it. Nobody is looking.
▶ Need help nowAwareness is not the soft part of this work. It is the part that has to happen before any of the rest becomes possible.
Every organization in this coalition joined because one person raised it in a room. You are reading this because someone did.
THREE THINGS, TODAY, THAT COST NOTHING
The Fundamentals course inside the UACT Institute. Free. About an hour. When you finish, you can hold the conversation without fumbling for the numbers.
Stop asking what is wrong with people. Start wondering what happened to them. It is a small shift and it changes almost every relationship you have.
Your church. Your school board. Your workplace. Your book club. You do not need a title to put something on an agenda.
None of these require money, permission, or a credential.
THE SECOND ONE IS HARDER THAN IT SOUNDS
Seven in ten of the people around you were wounded as children. Most have never told anyone. You do not need training to be the person they finally tell — you need to not flinch.
| Ask what happened, not what is wrong. | The difference between those two questions is the whole field. |
|---|---|
| Believe them the first time. | Most people who disclose are testing whether it is safe to say more. |
| Do not fix it. | You are not the solution. You are the evidence that telling someone was survivable. |
| Stay afterward. | The person who is still there next week matters more than anything said in the moment. |
WHEN YOU WANT TO GO FURTHER
Sign the Charter as an individual. Free, immediate, and it puts a shard on the map — anonymously unless you choose otherwise.
The newsletter. What is being learned, what is being built, and where it is working.
Every dollar funds the training of the people who will do the healing. There is no endowment behind this.
AND THEN, THE BIGGER THING
A city becomes trauma responsive when enough ordinary people in it understand what they are looking at — the teacher, the coach, the pastor, the barber, the person at the front desk. Not one program. A shift in what a whole community can see.
Find out who is already doing this where you live — and if nobody is, be the first name on the map.
